window: teaching

happily, i teach a year long, 10 hour per week studio to students that will major in design related concentrations, as well as music. first year of design school is spent investigating the world through inter-related scales of the body, objects and space. we begin with simple assumptions about the everyday world: a window is square, etc...or is it? by questioning assumptions, students learn to interrogate time, the moving environment, and translate their individual findings via new visual representations and imaginings. they learn that creating is a process of experiment. -  work from spring semester common first year studio, "fundamentals of design and the built environment."
